Some big titles of 2007 :
> Gay Travels in the Muslim World

Great mix of sex and politics!
> cunt: a declaration of independence
by inga muscio
If you do not receive this email then it is probably because your net filter do not like this title.
> Anything by Radclyffe
not a single book but a whole shelf of them and each (almost) as popular as the next. A publishing phenomenon.
> Michael Tolliver Lives
by Armistead Maupin
This has divided people on how successful it is in updating Mouse's life but it is still a must read for Tales' fans.
> Let the Right One In
by Leslie Feinberg
Twisted Scandinavian vampire tale.
>

Orphan Gunner
by Sarah Knox

Some books arrive in a blaze of publicity while others tend to become popular by word of mouth. This is our recommendation for the 2008 sleeper of the year.

EVENTS
There are just too many to list! Mechele, our whiteboard queen is the hardest working retail person on the planet. But of course I cannot not mention Midsumma's flagship literary event:

Memoirs of a Beautiful

Boy
by Robert Leleux

Wonderfully written with moving twists, the story digs deep into the fabric of our lives, giving the reader plenty to ponder. You won't be able to turn the pages fast enough to get to the exhilarating conclusion. – Diva magazine Rediscover 18 gems from the era of early AIDS. The tales transport readers to the ’80s and mid ’90s—when “manageable disease” was not part of the AIDS lexicon. With such heavyweight writers as Holleran and Peck, it is required reading, especially for the growing younger generation of newly infected. – Poz Magazine “Sad lives make funny people,” So Mr. Leleux has coaxed some head-tossing, high-strung comedy out of the fact that his father walked out on 16-year-old Robert and his mother, leaving them stuck in an East Texas backwater. In their shared opinion the local funeral home was the best-looking place in Petunia. “It figures you’d have to die in this town to experience beauty,” Mr. Leleux quotes his mother as having said.

STAFF RECOMMENDATIONS

52 Vol. 1 – 4
by Wayne Hoffman

52 refers to the weeks in a year and the 52 individual comics originally released on a weekly basis over a year. Documenting a DC comics world without Wonder Woman, Batman and Superman after the Infinite Crisis series came to an end. Various secondary heroes and other characters are smoothly reintroduced and come into their own without the big 3 around. Collected here in 4 visually stunning, full colour volumes. Featuring lead stories as well as conceptual drawings and commentary from creators and editors. Notable character reinvention is Batwoman, who hasn't featured in comics since she was assassinated in 1979. And as it happens is an incredibly beautiful lesbian who kicks ass in and out of costume.

Vol. 1 weeks 1-13; Vol. 2 14-26; Vol 3. 27-39; Vol 4. 40-52.

Seduced by Grace
by Michael Bernard Kelly

The collected writings and lectures of Michael Kelly, composed over a ten year period and published on three continents. Exploring contemplative spirituality, erotic grace, prophetic activism, gay experience, and the soulful challenges of contemporary living.

... the passionate despatches of a reporter from one of the most hostile – for gay men and women – regimes on earth: the Catholic church. Michael Kelly has come out but stayed in. His indictment of the church is stark but his vision of what it might become has the power to move even hardened atheists. – David Marr

Redback
by Lindy Cameron
  Izzy & Eve
by Neal Drinnan
  El Dorado
by Dorothy Porter
  Faith
by Alicia Bennett
Taking a big step away from her Kit O'Malley series, Lindy Cameron has created an excellent thriller. Pacey, peopled with strong female characters; good male characters; a complicated yet disconcertingly believable multi-threaded plot and a hefty dose of subtle humour, REDBACK is definitely going to be amongst my best books of 2007 list. – GenreFlash

Winner of the Lambda Award for SF/Fantasy/Horror 2006

A thrilling, inventive, and edgy work of speculative fiction about a gay man and a straight woman living together in an anonymous city.... concerning a psychedelic drug that seems to be causing deaths in the gay community. - Locus mag

Once again, Porter succeeds in that impossible juggling act of narrative and poetry. Even for the most casual of reader, El Dorado reads easily as a fast paced, intense and psychologically satisfying thriller. For those who want more than simply a quick escape, El Dorado explores complex topics of childhood innocence and guilt; love and hatred; desire and psychosis with the kind of taut intensity that only poetry can provide.   Faith, a young woman struggling with addiction and prostitution, has lost Her child to the state foster care system. Olive, a hardened police detective meets Faith after she is raped. Olive's life becomes enmeshed in Faith's as she supports her campaign to regain custody of her child, neither woman acknowledging that there are not fairy tale endings when the best place for a child isn't always with her mother.

It was selling nicely back in late 2006 and then it was featured in LOTL and it went out of print. The orders kept on coming in but there was nothing we could do. To prove that Santa is a dyke we received copies of the reprint edition on Christmas eve.
